The Chemist\u2019s Quest \u2014 Where Hands-On Magic Meets Real Science<\/p>\n
At Cornel, we believe that true learning happens through doing. This week, our young chemists dove into a hands-on adventure full of wonder, reaction, and creation.<\/p>\n
Using plaster and silicone molds, students made custom hand sculptures, freezing a moment in time with science. They also crafted their own bouncy balls using borax and glue, learning about molecular crosslinking and elasticity through playful experimentation.<\/p>\n
One of the most exciting moments was building saltwater-powered cars. With magnesium plates, carbon sheets, and saltwater, students generated electricity and powered real moving vehicles\u2014an exciting, tangible introduction to clean energy innovation.<\/p>\n
We also brought chemistry classics to life\u2014like the \u201cElephant Toothpaste\u201d experiment. By combining hydrogen peroxide, yeast, and soap, children watched a massive foam eruption and learned about rapid catalytic reactions in action.<\/p>\n
Finally, our classroom turned magical with the creation of crystal Christmas trees. Through a controlled crystallization process using salt and minerals on filter paper, each student grew their own unique, snowy-looking tree\u2014turning chemistry into a winter art project.<\/p>\n
\ud83c\udf93 Learning Language Through Space and Strategy
\nIn English class, we explored the theme of \u201cIslands, Mapping, and Coordinates,\u201d combining drawing, teamwork, and movement-based games to develop spatial awareness and real-world English communication skills.<\/p>\n
This wasn\u2019t about memorizing vocabulary\u2014it was about using language to describe maps, give directions, and strategize movement. Even more special: we recorded students\u2019 original voice clips, allowing parents and viewers to hear their children explain ideas using full sentences and logical structures.<\/p>\n
