The Chemist’s Quest — Where Hands-On Magic Meets Real Science
At Cornel, we believe that true learning happens through doing. This week, our young chemists dove into a hands-on adventure full of wonder, reaction, and creation.
Using plaster and silicone molds, students made custom hand sculptures, freezing a moment in time with science. They also crafted their own bouncy balls using borax and glue, learning about molecular crosslinking and elasticity through playful experimentation.
One of the most exciting moments was building saltwater-powered cars. With magnesium plates, carbon sheets, and saltwater, students generated electricity and powered real moving vehicles—an exciting, tangible introduction to clean energy innovation.
We also brought chemistry classics to life—like the “Elephant Toothpaste” experiment. By combining hydrogen peroxide, yeast, and soap, children watched a massive foam eruption and learned about rapid catalytic reactions in action.
Finally, our classroom turned magical with the creation of crystal Christmas trees. Through a controlled crystallization process using salt and minerals on filter paper, each student grew their own unique, snowy-looking tree—turning chemistry into a winter art project.
🎓 Learning Language Through Space and Strategy
In English class, we explored the theme of “Islands, Mapping, and Coordinates,” combining drawing, teamwork, and movement-based games to develop spatial awareness and real-world English communication skills.
This wasn’t about memorizing vocabulary—it was about using language to describe maps, give directions, and strategize movement. Even more special: we recorded students’ original voice clips, allowing parents and viewers to hear their children explain ideas using full sentences and logical structures.
At Cornel, English is not just a subject—it’s a tool for understanding the world, and we help our students use it with confidence, clarity, and creativity. Join us in celebrating a week full of thoughtful, hands-on, and truly engaging learning.
🎨 For our weekly field trip, we visited Dali Art Plaza, where students enjoyed an open, art-filled environment that encouraged movement, freedom, and creative energy. It was a refreshing balance to a week filled with meaningful and skill-rich learning experiences.
