Hello! My name is Scott Huddleston and I will be teaching at Cornel School. I grew up in a rural small town (Chillicothe) of 8,000 residents in north central Missouri. When I graduated from high school I moved to a larger city where I earned my first degree (Bachelors) in psychology at Missouri Western State University.
After graduating I began working in a hospital that treated adolescents and adults with mental illness. The experience introduced me to a love for working with youth. I decided to go back to school at Graceland University where I earned my second Bachelors degree in elementary education and K-12 special education.
Since my undergraduate degrees I have begun working towards a Masters in elementary/secondary educational leadership.
When I began my adventure in education I realized I had made the right decision. I began my journey teaching third graders and kindergarten through 5th grade special education. The experience taught me a lot and provided more opportunities. Through my elementary experience I had the opportunity to teach 6th grade in Jamaica and participate in a reading interventions class. The Jamaica experience led to my desire to teach abroad.
Currently, I am a middle school learning specialist in Columbia, Missouri. I teach all subjects in special education and regular education. When I am not teaching I’m coaching cross country, basketball, and track for the school. I really enjoy what I do. I have found that through building positive relationships anything can be achieved. My goal is for my students to learn and enjoy coming to school. In my classes the students are not afraid to take risks and make mistakes. We attempt to make everything a positive learning experience.
Outside of school I enjoy a variety of different activities. Athletics, music, the outdoors, and social activitiesare where and what you will find me doing on my days off. I have a fascination for trying new activities and meeting new people. I’m an avid basketball, baseball, and football fan. Go Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, and University of Missouri Tigers!! Please, feel free to come say hello when you see me. I’d love to introduce myself and learn more about you!
